During pregnancy, your body goes through significant changes. The hormones your body produces, combined with changes in your posture, can increase your risk of painful injuries. The most common type of back problem is associated with a so- called "sway back." In this condition, the increased arch in the back places stress on low back muscles causing painful muscle spasms. Therapy includes the stretching of tight low back muscles and strengthening of weak abdominals. Sacroiliac joint pain is usually a very sharp pain towards one side or another in the very low back area. Hands on "manual" therapy techniques can be very helpful in reducing this problem. After giving birth, upper back and neck pain are common. Lifting and carrying a growing baby can cause a "hunched over" posture and greater muscle or ligament pain. Physical therapy can help reduce your pain at this time as well as controlling it throughout your pregnancy. Click here to read more about treatments for Post Partum pain.
