In addition to traditional modes of treatment for plantar fasciitis, therapists at Select Physical Therapy also use kinesio taping and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM). Both techniques help to speed recovery time for proper healing.

Kinesio taping for plantar fasciitis uses a specialized tape that is applied at various aspects of the foot and lower leg. Benefits include reducing inflammation and pain, increasing blood flow to the injured area, and supporting the joint into a neutral position for healing. Patients can be instructed in the technique to allow independent management if needed.

There are several benefits with IASTM as well. This technique utilizes specialized tools for soft tissue mobilization and massage. These tools allow the therapist to work very specifically at the site of injury as well as allowing the therapist to use various amounts of pressure. IASTM improves overall length of both fascia and muscle, decreases scar tissue, and increases blood flow to re-initiate proper healing. Use of these tools versus traditional hands-on soft tissue mobilization considerably improves overall healing time.
