Myofascial
Release* is a therapy approach based on releasing pressure in the fascial
system, or connective tissue. Fascia is connective
tissue that covers the skeletal system and body organs in one continuous
web from head to toe, not unlike a thick body-length sweater.
When
part of the body experiences trauma or inflammation, this can cause the
fascia to tighten and produce pain, tension, and
dysfunction throughout different parts of the body. In order to
release the tension, therapy is focused on loosening the fascia and its
pressure on nerves, muscles, and organs. Myofascial Release is a hands-on
therapy approach involving the application of gentle pressure in the direction
of the fascial restriction.
Select Physical Therapy's
therapists have been trained in this approach and are ready to help you
relieve pain, tension, and restriction of movement.
